Configit to Attend Smart Variant.conBerlin, June 21-23, 2015
June 4th 2015
The annual Smart Variant.con conference will take place in Berlin from June 21-23, 2015. This year, the main topics are “Planning for Variant Diversity with Building Blocks and Platforms,” “Calculating and Mastering Product Complexity,” and “Supporting Methods, Processes, and Tools.” Once again, Configit will be acting as an event business partner and offering contributions alongside its customer, MAN Truck & Bus AG (MAN).
Best Practice Track from MAN Truck & Bus AG
Dr. Matthias Kreimeyer, Senior Manager for Product Architecture, and Bastian Kopal, Product Architect, both with MAN, as well as Dr. Mathias Zagel, an independent consultant, will be hosting a lecture on the “Challenges of Managing a Regulatory Framework Across a Family of Products for a Commercial Vehicle Manufacturer,” a subproject within the framework of the introduction of PDM/PLM at MAN Truck & Bus AG.
The implementation of the product development process at MAN has resulted in far-reaching demands on the management of a comprehensive regulatory framework. This means that requirements for the compatibility of the vehicle characteristics must be collected and checked for consistency at the start of a development project. At the same time, solutions that are applicable for a series and/or family of products make it difficult to draw clear distinctions between products. Additionally, with the scope of the resultant regulatory framework, the frequency of changes and/or expansions, and the extremely high number of characteristics to be configured in commercial vehicles, a powerful software solution must be accessible. The software solution presented in the lecture will be based on Configit’s Model and Ace products.
World Café Session from Configit
Configit representatives, Dr. Markus Lindemann, General Manager, Ludger Wilmer, Sales Director, and Heiko Markgraf, Application Engineer, will be using the collective intelligence of the World Café format to discuss the “Benefits of Product Modeling in SAP and Complementary Tools.”
A majority of manufacturing companies in Germany use SAP as their ERP system. In addition to extensive support of business management processes, SAP also offers very powerful and comprehensive tools for supporting variant management. Thus, it is hardly surprising that many companies already have their product data and object dependencies illustrated in SAP. The basis is often the SAP variant configuration (LO-VC). In order to be able to use the product data and the object dependencies from LO-VC (or SAP CRM) in a Web-based product configurator, SAP Internet Pricing & Configuration (IPC) is made available. Newer SAP solutions such as Solution Sales Configuration (SSC) are based on these technologies. The World Café Session offers participants an opportunity to share their experiences regarding methods and tools for product modeling.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could find the time to join us on both days of the conference.
